Take me to Jamaica

Don't this snaps look gorgeous? They definitely do.
I was writing the last time about my aim to share with you this lovely photos. I was so lucky to collect backbacker's necessary information. So here it comes.

How to get there?

The best way is of curse by plane. You can look for flights on many special sites (one of my favorite is flyf4free.com). If you want to save some money, try to look for flights not from your nearest city. Maybe London or Amsterdam would be good.

Where to stay?

Westport Cottage is recommended for those who don't need 5-star hotel. It is small hostel with few "stuffy huts" located on the western part of the island, in Negil. Prices are more affordable than in more places. The hostel is located 2 minutes walk from the beach and it provides kitchen and place to do laundry. Every hut has it own porch where you can eat your breakfast or drink coffee in the morning or meet many new people during evening chillout.

Local food specials

Fish! Fishing is well-developed part of Jamaica's economy. Although you can get fish, there are also grilled lobsters for 30$ per one. Local fast-food is called Juicy-Patty and is made from shortcrust pastry filled with meat or vegetables with spices. You can get one only in local bakery. Also may exotic fruits are available like lychee, dragon fruit or babaco.

*extra   -   It's hard to get milk in supermarket.

What to do/experience
  • Rick's cafe - first hippie cafe located on the top of a cliff. Every evening there is water-jumps show for tourists.
  • Lighthouse in Negril
  • YS Falls - Place to see and to swim in.
  • Mangrove river - Very romantic cruise through the river, courageous can swim with crocodiles.
  • snorkeling - Boats offering such trip are moored along the seashore.
  • Bob Marley Museum in Kingstone
  • Blue Moutains with Jamaica's highest peak where both north and south coast can be seen
Jamaica is quite expensive place to go but beaches there can make up for this price. People there are friendly but you can not trust then and you need to be careful about them. Working in tourism, they only look for money. Also you had better not to visit small villages alone. The best answer for question "Which time on Jamaica" is "third" the they know you are not so fresh about all situation.

I hope that this post will help those of you who are going to Jamaica. If you would like to share your experiences, don't bother to leave a comment for next readers.
